Getting Started

The CargoMax container loading calculator is designed to be simple, but a few tips can help you get the most accurate results. This guide walks you through every step, from accessing the tool to interpreting the final load plan.

Step 1: Access the Calculator

Navigate to the Calculator page from the main menu or the prominent button on our homepage. The calculator runs entirely in your browser for the 3D view, with the calculation logic handled by our server.

Step 2: Configure Your Container

The first section is where you define the inside dimensions of your shipping container. You can either select a preset container type (20ft, 40ft, 40ft HC) or choose “Custom” to enter your own dimensions.

• Use centimeters for all measurements.
• Always use the internal dimensions, not external.
• If you are using a container with non-standard shape, approximate it as a rectangular box using the smallest usable dimensions.

Step 3: Add Your Cargo Items

Below the container section, you will find the cargo list. Each row represents one type of item.

• Description: Optional. Use names like “Carton A”, “Pallet 2”.
• Dimensions: Enter the length, width, and height. The orientation does not matter – the algorithm tries all 6 orthogonal rotations.
• Quantity: How many items of this exact size you want to pack.
• Click + Add Another Item to include different sized cargo.

Step 4: Run the Calculation

Once all container and cargo data is filled in, press the Calculate Packing button. A loading indicator will appear while the server processes your request. Typical response time is under 2 seconds.

Step 5: Understanding the Results

After calculation, the page will scroll down to show two panels:

• Statistics Panel: Total items packed, volumetric utilization percentage, and a summary of any items that could not be placed.
• 3D Visual Panel: An interactive model of the packed container. Use your mouse or touch to rotate, zoom, and pan.
• Packing List: Below the 3D view, a table lists every item's coordinates, dimensions, and orientation.

Interpreting the 3D View

• Zoom: Scroll to zoom in/out.
• Rotate: Click and drag.
• Pan: Right-click and drag (or two-finger drag on touch devices).
• The colored boxes represent your cargo items.

What If Not All Items Fit?

If your container cannot accommodate the entire shipment, the tool will show how many items were placed and which ones were left out. You may increase the container dimensions, reduce quantities, or try rearranging items manually.

Pro Tips

• For palletized cargo, enter the pallet dimensions as the item size.
• Always round up your measurements slightly (add 1–2 cm) to account for packaging irregularities.
• Use the same unit (cm) for all dimensions.
